How to go from ‘fed-up’ to ‘fantastic’ this February

After the excitement of the festive season and the promise of a new year, things might seem a bit meh at the moment. So, you’ll be pleased to know that your friends at KBPT are here to get you through the month with our top tips to give both your physical health and mental wellbeing an amazing boost.

1. Spend time in nature

Research shows that spending at least two hours a week in nature is associated with good health and wellbeing. Yes, we know it’s cold, but as the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing”. So grab your puffer, beanie and trainers and go for a walk, run or bike ride! Being in nature can help to lower your blood pressure and improve your immune function, as well as reducing feelings of anxiety and stress. And if you venture outside in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest point, you’ll get a much-needed dose of Vitamin D.

2. Eat more superfoods

It’s really important to eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods every day – here at KBPT, we like to think of it as a rainbow of colours. You’ve probably heard the term ‘superfood’, which describes food that is particularly good for your health, such as dark leafy greens (e.g. spinach and kale), berries, sweet potatoes, pulses (e.g. lentils and chickpeas), oily fish (e.g. salmon) and nuts and seeds. So, whilst no single food is the solution for optimum health, it’s a great idea to include as many superfoods as possible in your diet.

3. Find time for self-care

Between work, family, friends, life admin and hobbies, youre probably juggling a million things and might feel guilty about focusing on yourself. But self-care is one of the best things you can do for you and those around you. It could be as simple as taking a bath, listening to your favourite podcast or having an afternoon nap. Or perhaps you could book a massage, a yoga class or a flotation tank experience. Try to carve out regular slots during the week (just 30 minutes will makes a huge difference!) when you can forget everything else and be your own priority.
