1. Mighty Hikes
Get fit and support a good cause by participating in a one-day hiking marathon by Macmillan Cancer Support. You can hike some of the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of the UK – from the Lake District to the Wye Valley, the Jurassic Coast to Northumberland – and you’ll even get a glass of fizz as you cross the finish line!
2. Tough Mudder
Imagine an epic run, some obstacles, and a fair bit of dirt… say hello to Tough Mudder. Described as “the ultimate test of mind and body”, you’ll face various obstacles (including the iconic electroshock therapy) over miles of muddy trails. For your first event, you might go for the 5K option but if you’re more experienced and brave, how about a solid 24 hours of tough mudding?
3. Rat Race Adventure Challenge
Run, bike, and kayak through the stunning Glanusk Estate in the Brecon Beacons this Autumn. This unique challenge weekend is open to racers of all abilities – do it solo, with a friend, or in a team of five.
4. London to Brighton Cycle Ride
It’s the South’s iconic bike ride – 55 miles from Clapham Common to the seafront in Brighton, along country lanes and through the South Downs. It’s a great event and a great way to raise money for charity (the official partners this year are Great Ormond Street Hospital and Mind).
5. Spartan
If obstacles are your thing, doing a Spartan event should be on your bucket list. Whether you do the Stadion, the Sprint, or the Super, you’ll push yourself beyond your limits and if you’re up for the biggest challenge of your life, check out the Beast (a half marathon with 30 obstacles) and the Ultra (50k with 60 obstacles).
