Splash, Climb, and Glide: 4 Fun Summer Adventures to Try in East London

Move differently, feel stronger, and enjoy the sunshine

At KBPT, we’re all about helping women feel strong, confident, and empowered through movement, and summer is the perfect time to switch up your routine and take your fitness outdoors. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself in new ways or simply soak up the sun while staying active, we’ve rounded up four fun and feel-good ways to get moving in East London this season.

1. Glide Through the Canals with Paddleboarding London

SUP sessions on the Regent’s Canal and beyond

If you’ve never tried stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), this is your summer to hop on a board. It’s a brilliant low-impact, full-body workout that feels more like play than exercise. You’ll use your core, improve your balance, and get a dose of calm as you cruise along the water, it’s movement and mindfulness all in one.

Why it’s great:

  • Builds core strength and stability
  • Improves balance and coordination
  • A peaceful, moving meditation on water

Where to go: Try it with Paddleboarding London, based in Hackney and running sessions along the Regent’s Canal and St Katharine Docks. They offer beginner lessons, sunrise paddles, social SUPs and even paddleboard yoga. Boards and kit are provided, and the team is friendly, inclusive and experienced, ideal whether you’re a total beginner or looking to improve.

2. Dive into Wild Swimming at West Reservoir Centre, Stoke Newington

Cool off and connect with nature

For a real mental and physical refresh, wild swimming is hard to beat. At West Reservoir Centre, you can swim in open water surrounded by nature, right in the heart of Stoke Newington. Whether you prefer a peaceful solo swim or a coached session to get you started, this is an amazing way to feel more present in your body.

Why it’s great:

  • Lifts mood and reduces stress
  • Boosts circulation and immune health
  • Builds stamina and resilience

What you’ll need: A swimsuit or shorty wetsuit, a bright swim cap, tow float for safety, and goggles if you like. There are hot showers and changing rooms on site too, ideal for a post-swim warm-up.

3. Climb (Low!) with Outdoor Bouldering at Hackney Wick

No ropes, just strength, problem-solving and fun

Bouldering is a brilliant way to train strength and coordination without the heights of traditional climbing. At Hackney Bouldering Project, there’s a new outdoor wall that’s perfect for summer climbing sessions. It’s like solving a puzzle with your body, and it’s great for building confidence and body awareness.

Why it’s great:

  • A full-body strength workout
  • Improves grip, mobility, and problem-solving skills
  • Builds resilience (especially when you fall and try again!)

What to bring: Gym gear you can move in, and climbing shoes (you can hire them at the wall). Expect a supportive community vibe, whether you’re a newbie or looking to level up.

4. Swing Through the Trees at Go Ape Leyton

High ropes fun in East London’s Hollow Ponds woodland

Feeling adventurous? Head to Go Ape at Leyton for an outdoor obstacle course like no other. You’ll climb, balance, zipline, and swing your way through the treetops (it’s like a giant jungle gym for grown-ups) set in the beautiful Hollow Ponds woodland.

Why it’s great:

  • Builds upper body and grip strength
  • Improves coordination and balance
  • A big confidence boost (plus lots of laughs!)

What to expect: You’ll be harnessed in for safety as you navigate rope bridges, tree-top crossings, and ziplines. No experience needed, just bring your sense of adventure and maybe a friend to cheer you on.

Whether you’re paddling down a canal, clambering up a boulder, or flying through the treetops, these outdoor adventures are more than just a break from your usual routine. They’re a chance to explore new strengths, move your body in fresh ways, and reconnect with joy.
