Five tips to help you spring into Spring

It’s not long until the clocks go forward – hurrah! Longer days and more sunlight are always welcome, especially as it means more time to exercise outdoors. So, how can you spring forward into a new workout routine? KBPT has five great tips for you…

1. Reset your goals

It’s really helpful to know what you want to get out of exercising. Setting yourself some realistic fitness goals for the next few months will make you accountable and encourage you to keep going. Make your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely) (e.g. ‘Exercise for 45 minutes three mornings a week’) and try to focus on one goal at a time (e.g. ‘Do my first Parkrun in May’). If you put all your efforts into achieving that, you’ll be more likely to succeed.

2. Refresh your gym gear (and playlist)

As you might expect, our KBPT trainers spend most of their lives in activewear, so we know there’s nothing better than a new pair of leggings or trainers to put a spring in our step! Consider how carefully you put together what you wear for work or a night out and do the same for exercising. When you look good, you instantly feel more confident and that can help you to perform better. You might also want to find some new playlists to keep you motivated – check out ‘Running 80s-90s’ and ‘Workout Beats’ on Spotify.

3. Get outside

Why not go for a run or bike ride along one of London’s canals and rivers or around a nearby lake or reservoir? Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds, Regent’s Canal, Walthamstow Marshes… there are lots of places around London where you can run near water. Or how about going ‘forest bathing’ in Epping Forest or Highgate Wood? Switch off your phone. Walk slowly. Breathe deeply. Even if you just do some exercises in your garden, you’ll benefit from fresh air and a much-needed dose of Vitamin D.

4. Work with a KBPT personal trainer

Need a bit of extra motivation and support? Our fantastic team of female personal trainers in East London can design a workout programme just for you. We offer a broad range of specialisms, including strength training, pre-natal training and triathlon training, and we can train you at home, in your local park or online. 5. Think holistically

As well as getting into a new workout routine this Spring, think about how you’re fuelling your body. Start by making some small changes (e.g. reduce the amount of sugary foods you consume and make sure you get your 5 a day of fruit and veg) and don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking more water and herbal teas. After just a few weeks of healthy living, you should notice that you have more energy and feel more positive.
