Fuel your body

As part of our KBPT personal training programmes, our trainers can provide advice about nutrition. We’re not fans of restrictive diets or banning certain food groups; we prefer to encourage people to have a healthy, balanced diet. Ultimately, we want our clients to see food as a fuel to help them feel their absolute best. Here are a few of our top nutrition tips.

Understand the basics

Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day
Include wholegrain or wholemeal high-fibre ingredients in meals (e.g. brown rice)
Have a balanced amount of dairy products or dairy alternatives
Cut down on saturated fat, sugar and salt
Include some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein in meals
Stay hydrated (ideally, 6-8 glasses of healthy drinks every day)

Plan ahead

One of the best ways to maintain a nutritious diet is to get organised. Try to spend some time at the weekend planning your meals for the following week and buying the ingredients. You might find it useful to print out a meal planner and use a recipe app. If you don’t have much time on weekday evenings, how about batch cooking some of your meals and keeping them in the freezer? Planning ahead is a win-win as it will help you to eat healthier (less snacking and fewer Just Eat panic orders!) and also save money on your supermarket bill.

Track what you eat

We recommend keeping a food diary in which you track your meals, snacks and drinks. It’s a great way to spot any unhealthy patterns and monitor your progress over time. Are you getting your five a day of fruit and veg? Do you need to drink more water? Could you replace your afternoon snack with something healthier? Print out a food diary or download an app to help you stay on track – and, if you’re a KBPT client, share your diary with your trainer each week so they can help you to smash your healthy eating goals!
