HOW KBPT CAN HELP YOU TO RECOVER FROM INJURY OR ILLNESS
Have you hurt yourself while exercising or playing sport? Do you have an ongoing medical condition? Have you been in an accident or ill?
One of KBPT’s specialisms is rehabilitation training and, in this blog, our founder Kate explains how we can help with your recovery. As she says, getting people back to full fitness is one of the most rewarding things the KBPT team does.
1. What is rehabilitation training and why is it important?
It can be so many things. Here at KBPT, we’ve trained people who are suffering from back pain, knee injuries, broken bones, muscle tightness, reduced lung capacity and other conditions. We’ve also worked with people who are having treatment for cancer and recovering from major surgery.
When you’re in these situations, it’s really tough and it’s important that you exercise gently and safely so that you don’t injure yourself more. Our KBPT trainers are experts in guiding you through your rehabilitation.
2. When someone comes to you for rehabilitation training, how do you assess their needs and devise a programme for them?
We have an initial video call with them to talk about their injury or medical condition so that we can prepare for the first face-to-face training session. We also find out how their GP and/or physiotherapist is supporting them so that we can work closely with them to create a three-way rehabilitation process.
In the first face-to-face training session, our KBPT trainer assesses the client’s injury/condition further and also gauges their fitness level before designing a bespoke rehabilitation training programme for them. If the client would like us to, we can include nutritional advice to help them fuel their body correctly during recovery.
3. How and why do you work with the client’s GP and/or physiotherapist?
It’s really important to work with medical professionals when you’re supporting someone’s rehabilitation. We ask the GP and/or physio lots of questions so that we can create the right programme and tweak it as we go along. By speaking to them directly, we ensure nothing gets lost in translation and that we have the best possible impact.
If you’re recovering from injury or illness and you’re not seeing a physiotherapist, we recommend OM Therapy in Dalston. We work closely with the team there and we know they are excellent.
4. What are the main benefits of doing rehabilitation training with KBPT?
First of all, we help you to function fully and with less pain and to do physical activities that you weren’t able to do while injured or ill, whether that’s something as simple as bending over or something more advanced, such as going for a run.
If you’ve been stuck at home during your recovery, this might have affected your mental health. Seeing one of our KBPT trainers every week and doing other exercise in between also helps to boost your mood and stay motivated.
Finally, we train you in person in the comfort of your own home. So you don’t need to worry if you find it difficult to leave the house because you’re injured, ill or lacking confidence.
5. How do you feel when you help someone to overcome an injury or illness?
It’s the best thing – so rewarding! Your recovery might feel like a long and frustrating road but we promise our KBPT trainers will help you along the way. When we see someone giving 100% and getting back to full fitness, it’s really inspiring.
