A proud female-owned and female-run business, KBPT helps Londoners of all ages and abilities to get fitter and healthier. In this blog, our founder Kate takes us behind the scenes…
What was your vision when you set up KBPT?
I wanted to create a team of personal trainers who are knowledgeable, down-to-earth and compassionate. Personally, I take a holistic approach to health and fitness so I wanted to find other trainers who do the same and who could turn their hand to different types of training. As an all-female team, it’s very empowering to see women supporting other women.
How do you decide which KBPT trainer works with which client?
I always do the initial consultation with new clients so my first criteria for choosing a trainer for them is ‘What is their specific need?’ – they might be looking for rehab following an injury, be training for a specific event, such as a triathlon, or be pregnant, for example. I then consider our trainers’ personalities and decide who would suit the client best.
“Kate and her team are incredible motivators, passionate about
what they do and it shows!” Sarah (KBPT client)
Does KBPT specialise in certain types of training?
We offer a broad range of personal training and, like I said, we take a holistic approach. We’re not just about high-intensity workouts; we also encourage our clients to practice good habits in areas such as sleep, food and mindfulness. But, yes, our trainers do have qualifications in various specialisms, such as strength training, injury rehab, pre and post natal training and recovery from cancer treatment.
Your mobile PT service means you cover a wide area of east London… do all your trainers live in this part of London?
Yes, all our KBPT trainers live in east London. They know the parks inside out and love training clients outside or in the client’s home. Being out in nature – especially in the summer – and training clients in a local park is everyone’s favourite thing to do.
What are the main benefits of working for KBPT?
Most personal trainers have to find their own clients, do their own marketing and pay rent for gym or studio space. As a member of the KBPT team, you don’t have to do any of this. You can focus fully on training clients while I run the business side of things. There’s great camaraderie in our team and we all support each other.
“Fantastic, supportive, tailored training – I needed physical therapy and KBPT has done a superb job.” Eldrid (KBPT client)
You manage the KBPT team remotely… are there any particular challenges?
No, it all runs very smoothly. Most of my trainers have been with KBPT for several years and everyone’s incredible. We work really closely even though we’re not physically together. We have a KBPT team WhatsApp group and everyone has first class communication skills – we all joke that PTs are as efficient as PAs! We also get together every three months and do something fun like trampolining or a night out in east London. I feel very lucky to work with such an amazing group of women.
