KBPT explores the green spaces of east London

There’s nothing better than exercising outdoors, whether that’s in your garden, at your local park or on a beach while you’re on holiday. With so many fantastic parks in east London, our KBPT trainers love getting outside for PT sessions with their clients. So, where might you find us this summer?

London Fields, E8

One of Hackney’s most popular parks, London Fields dates back to the 16th century when it was used by drovers to graze their livestock on the way to Smithfield Market. The 31 acres of parkland are now a magnet for locals and tourists to relax, socialise and work out. There are tennis courts, a wildflower meadow, children’s play areas and a heated 50m lido that’s open all year round. It’s right next to the brilliant Broadway Market and there are some great pubs nearby. You’ll often find our KBPT trainers and clients doing their sessions in the shade of the plane trees at London Fields.

Victoria Park, E3

Known by many as ‘Vicky Park’ or the ‘People’s Park’, it was opened in 1845 for the benefit of the people of Bethnal Green, Bow and Mile End and now receives more than nine million visitors a year! Covering 218 acres, it has a boating lake, sports facilities and cafes and hosts the annual All Points East festival (Haim, Stormzy and The Strokes are headlining this year). We’re big fans of Victoria Park here at KBPT, whether it’s for PT sessions, going for a run, hiring a rowing boat or visiting the food market.

Hackney Marshes, E9

Even if you don’t live in Hackney, you probably know that Hackney Marshes is the ‘spiritual home ‘of Sunday league football. It’s also the start and finish point for the Hackney Half Marathon, which several KBPT trainers and clients have taken part in – and, yes, that final mile from Hackney Wick is a killer! Another park with a long history (the marshes were drained in medieval times), Hackney Marshes is popular with KBPT trainers and clients who live in Clapton, Homerton, Leyton and Stratford.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, E20

We can’t believe it’s more than 10 years since London hosted the Olympics and Paralympics… but one of the legacies of that amazing summer is the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It’s a beautiful space with formal gardens, wildflower meadows and wetlands. A staggering 560 acres, our KBPT trainers have plenty of options for client PT sessions and they also enjoy using the cycle paths and canalside walks in their own time.

Want to follow in the footsteps of Olympians? Go for a swim at the London Aquatics Centre or a bike ride at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

Wanstead Flats, E11

No worries if you live a little further east of London – Wanstead Flats is a great option for outdoor training sessions with KBPT. The southernmost point of Epping Forest, it’s a large area of grassland that has been described as “perfect for sports, picnics and enjoying nature”. As its name implies, it’s great for running as it’s so flat (there’s a popular Parkrun here every Saturday morning) and, as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the added bonus is the wildlife you’ll see while doing your burpees, including grey squirrels, butterflies and skylarks.
