As we head deeper into summer, there’s no better time to switch up your exercise routine. Maybe you could fit in a run before work or do your PT session outside? In this blog, the KBPT team shares a few ideas for making the most of the longer days and finding some new ways to stay fit and healthy.
Swap home workouts for outdoor workouts
After a long winter, you’re probably sick of exercising in your house or at the gym. So, why not take the opportunity to get outside? Find some new running routes near your home, go for a bike ride around the local area or start doing your weekly sessions with KBPT in the park.
Get your mates involved
Rather than having a Saturday morning lie-in, how about setting up your own outdoor boot camp? Invite your friends to a local park or to your garden for an hour of HIIT and some yoga. There are lots of YouTube videos to guide you and the best news is that you’ll have fun and get fit at the same time!
Try something you’ve never done before
Having the same fitness routine week in, week out can start to feel monotonous. Now’s the perfect time to have a go at something completely new. Cold water swimming at Hampstead Heath Ponds? Tennis in Regent’s Park? Parkrun at your local playing field? Dip your toe in and give it a go. And, if you already train with KBPT, you can always ask your trainer to introduce boxing, yoga or some other new moves into your session.
Have an outdoor adventure
Now that we’re able to travel more freely again, perhaps you could combine your holiday with improving your health? Keep it simple with a weekend hiking or cycling in one of the UK’s stunning national parks or go big by booking a paddleboarding or yoga retreat on a beautiful Mediterranean island. You’ll no doubt come back feeling refreshed and reinvigorated.
Make the most of daily moments
You don’t have to call something ‘exercise’ for it to be good for your physical and mental wellbeing. Don’t just watch your kids at the playground, join in with them. Mow the lawn or plant some veggies. Walk to the supermarket instead of driving there. You’d be amazed how important these kinds of small bursts of movement are.
Do your prep
Finally, it’s really important to be prepared for exercising in warmer weather. Don’t forget to wear the right gear (think lightweight vests and leggings, a cap/visor and sunglasses), use sunscreen and carry a bottle of water with you. And, when the sun is particularly strong, make sure you lower the intensity of your workout.
