Did you know that, on average, men die six years earlier than women due to ill health? That’s one of the heartbreaking statistics on the Movember website.
Although KBPT is an all-female personal training team (and although we can’t grow mustaches…), we’re inspired by the way Movember has changed the face of men’s health in recent years. The charity does vital work in mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
So, our lovely male clients and followers (and any of our female clients and followers who fancy supporting the men in their lives)… how about taking part in Move for Movember? Your challenge is to run or walk 60km during November – that’s 60km for the 60 men lost to suicide every hour across the world.
Here are KBPT’s top tips if you decide to take on this challenge:
Start small
You should be able to walk around 5km in an hour. So, just two weeks of hour-long daily walks and you’ll smash your 60km target! As the guys at Movember say, “Chip away your way”.
Be prepared
Don’t forget to warm up and cool down whenever you exercise so that you reduce the risk of injury. Before you head out, do some jogging on the spot, some shoulder circles, and some lunges. And when you get back, have a good stretch.
Get creative
You can rack up those kilometers in lots of different ways. Stair running. Circuits in your garden. Treadmill while you Zoom. Or maybe you could run or walk to work rather than taking the bus or tube. It all adds up.
Don’t do it alone
Why not find a friend who likes a good challenge? If you’ve arranged to meet at the park for a 6 am run, you’ll be less inclined to hit the snooze button! Plus, together you’ll be able to raise even more money for this amazing cause.
Set targets
There are lots of great resources on the Movember website, including a calendar to keep you motivated. If you’re a KBPT client, ask your trainer to help you create your Move for Movember training plan.
With the money raised through Move for Movember helping to fund groundbreaking health projects, who’s ready for their 60km?
