A lot of people who contact KBPT are complete newbies to exercise. And we love it! It’s a great opportunity to create a tailored personal training plan that not only gets them fitter and healthier but also helps them to realise that exercising is great fun.
As one KBPT client said in her review of our services, “I am very much a beginner who needed to get her fitness levels up… The difference I’ve managed to achieve is really startling, not just in how much more toned my body is but how much stronger and fitter I feel. I have tried other trainers in the past, but this is by far the most positive and professional experience I have had.”
If you’re a complete beginner, here are five questions we suggest you ask yourself before setting off on your fitness journey.
1. Why do I want to do this?
Whether you’re a busy young professional, a new parent, or an older person, you’ll have your own reasons for wanting to focus on regular exercise in 2023. Do you want to have more energy? Lose weight? Keep up with your kids? Feel happier? Live longer? Try to hone in on why this is so important to you and why this is the right time to do it.
2. How much time can I commit to this?
If finding the time to exercise has put you off previously, don’t let it stop you this time. Just 30 minutes of movement a day will make an enormous difference and, with so many online workouts available, you can do a lot of your workouts from the comfort of your own home.
3. Do I know how to motivate myself?
It’s never easy to start something new and stick at it. But there are lots of ways to help you stay motivated with your new exercise routine, such as setting goals, making it fun and rewarding yourself. If you think you’ll find it difficult, how about exercising with a friend, signing up for a regular gym class or hiring a personal trainer?
4. What physical activities did I enjoy as a child?
Perhaps you loved going out on your bike or being part of a school sports team. Maybe you were more into boxing, dancing, gymnastics, running or swimming. Try to incorporate some of the things you used to like doing into your new fitness routine.
5. How much money can I afford to spend?
There are lots of ways to exercise for free (e.g. running in the park and cold water swimming) or you may choose to dedicate some of your monthly budget to things like gym membership, fitness gear and a personal trainer. It’s completely up to you. However much you decide to spend, it’s an investment in your future.
