It’s August. The sun is shining (hopefully). And you’re ready to try some new ways to work out. So what activities does the KBPT team recommend to get you out in nature and get you fitter this summer?
Here’s our mini A-Z…
B is for Bodyboarding
If you live near the sea (lucky you!) or you’ve got a holiday coming up, how about giving bodyboarding a go? Like surfing, it helps you to strengthen the muscles in your arms, legs and core and can also improve co-ordination and balance. But, more than anything, being in the waves is really good for your soul.
C is for Cycling
Getting out and about on your bike is not just a great way to explore your local area, it also has lots of health benefits. Among other things, it can strengthen your immune system and help to cut the risk of heart disease. Plus, the release of adrenalin and endorphins you’ll get from cycling is great for your mental wellbeing.
F is for Frisbee
Whether you’re in the park or on the beach, a frisbee or flying disc is a fantastic way to work out and have fun at the same time… and they only cost around a tenner! If you’re looking for something more competitive, how about joining an Ultimate Frisbee team? You’ll get the chance to burn calories, increase your agility and make new friends.
H is for Hiking
A hike gives you a really good cardio workout without putting too much stress on your body. You don’t even have to leave London to do it – there are lots of parks and woodland areas across the city where you could walk for several hours. The good news is that being out in nature will also give your mental health a boost.
K is for Kayaking
Exploring London’s rivers and canals by kayak – or going sea kayaking when you’re at the coast – provides a brilliant summer workout. Tone your upper body, strengthen your core and lower your stress levels. Don’t worry if you’re a complete beginner, just sign up for a group lesson and get paddling.
P is for Parkrun
If you’re looking for something to keep you motivated this summer, you can’t go wrong with Parkrun. These free 5k events take place every Saturday and Sunday all over the UK. Walk, jog or run and get to know other participants while you’re on the move. You could even get your kids involved with the 2k Junior Parkruns.
S is for SUP
One of the fastest growing watersports, standup paddleboarding (SUP) gives you a full body, low impact workout. We know from experience how hard it can be to stand up at first but, if you take a few lessons and focus on your core stability, you’ll soon have it figured out. And, once you’ve got your confidence, how about trying SUP yoga? C’mon, who doesn’t want to master cobra and bridge pose whilst floating on water!
KBPT’s all-female personal training team is out and about all over East London this summer. Email Kate at kate@kbpersonaltraining.co.uk to find out how we can help you.
