How and why did you become a personal trainer?
I’ve always been super active. I went to dance school and I used to work as a commercial dancer. I then went into styling, which I loved, but I knew I wanted to do something more active. So, I qualified as a fitness instructor and taught classes in gyms and studios all over London.
When we went into lockdown in early 2020, my classes had to stop. It got me thinking and I decided to move into personal training. I got my PT qualification and started looking for jobs near where I live. KBPT was the first company that came up when I searched online for East London personal trainers. I joined the team in January 2021 and I’m loving it!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not training KBPT clients?
At the weekends, I’ll go to Barry’s Bootcamp or a similar hardcore class. I used to travel a lot as a dancer so, outside of fitness, my main passion is travelling. I’ve really missed it during lockdown. It’s such a simple thing but I can’t wait to book my next trip.
What is your philosophy on health and fitness?
It’s my goal to get my clients to the point where they can’t live without exercise. I want it to become a way of life for them. If they get a stronger body, I really believe they’ll be more powerful in other areas of their life too.
What inspires you – both professionally and personally?
My friends who are professional dancers are so inspiring! I know how hard they train.
How do you motivate your clients?
I mix up their PT sessions as much as possible and do mini fitness challenges with them so they don’t get bored. A session might include weights, HIIT and ‘every minute on the minute’ (EMOM) workouts, for example. I also make sure I give my clients my all and cheer them on. Music can be a great motivator too.
What lessons have you learned as a personal trainer?
I’ve learned so much already – from Kate (KBPT’s founder) and from all my clients. I used to teach dance cardio classes and got such a buzz from them. I was worried I wouldn’t get the same endorphin rush from personal training but I do! When I’m training someone in person, in particular, I find that we get positive energy off each other. And I love that I’ve already become good friends with a lot of the people I train. Kate seems to have a knack for pairing up the right personal trainer with each client.
Bonus question… if you could invite two famous people to dinner, who would you invite and why?
Beyoncé and Michelle Obama because they are such powerhouses. Can I invite my fiancé too?
Our KBPT female personal trainers are available for mobile PT in Hackney and other parts of East London. We also offer online PT.
